Wave to earth
wave to earth is a Korean-based alternative/rock band consisting of three members: Shin Donggyu (drummer), Daniel Kim (vocalist and guitarist), and Soonjong Cha (bassist). While some of the band’s songs are performed in Korean, most of them are in English. In late 2019, Shin Donggyu and Daniel Kim started creating music and were joined by bassist Soonjong Cha in early 2020, leading to the release of their EP, wave 0.01. Since then, they have become well-known for their popular tracks such as “seasons” and “light.”
Their latest album, flaws and all, showcases the band’s sonic excellence with its chilling and breathtaking instrumentals. Fans have eagerly anticipated the album’s release after the band dropped singles leading up to it starting in 2021.
About
The album features fourteen tracks that chronicle the band’s soft, indie-rock feel with hopeful and lovestruck lyrics. wave to earth manages to evoke a warm and sunny feeling, reminiscent of shades of orange that can best be compared to receiving a comforting embrace. The harmonization of vocals mixed with smooth instrumentals makes the album such an easy listen. Their ability to maintain a soulful tone while mixing energy throughout the album was really impressive. Overall, this album will definitely become a staple in my collection. If you are looking to expand your music taste, especially to a global group, wave to earth and flaws and all is a good place to start.

The Albums
Wave To Earth will wrap up ‘The First Era’ with eight shows in Asia, covering Jakarta, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines. After a few days, the band will be whisked away to Hong Kong, Taipei and Japan for the ‘Flaws And All’ Tour, in support of their first-ever studio album, ‘0.1 flaws and all’, released in April last year. Wave to Earth are then slated to head over to Europe for a series of shows concluding in April 2024.
The extensive scale of Wave To Earth’s ongoing global trek can be credited to the mass virality of some of their songs, including the tranquil ‘Seasons’, the soft, lovesick ‘Peach Eyes’ and the guitar-driven ‘Bad’. Ask Wave To Earth to personally define their hazy, dreamlike sound and they’ll coyly reply “Wave to Earth style”. Formed in middle school, the band have always wanted to create their own “new waves” through “comfortable songs” that resonate, they tell NME.
History
Wave to Earth was formed when Kim Daniel and Shin Dongkyu were in middle school. They said they formed a band with the ambition of "showing music that makes a new wave." They debuted with the single "wave" on 23 August 2019 with a new member Soonjong Cha. While the three of them are the official members, the session members also include Jo Jung-geun (keyboard), Jeon-min (saxophone), and Hong Seung-gi, an artwork member. They released two EPs in January 2020: Wave 0.01 and Summer Flows 0.02. They signed with Wavy, the label where Colde is the owner, in 2021. They had a live performance with La Poem on Naver Onstage. In 2023, they released their first studio album, 0.1 Flaws and All. They were included in the lineup of South Korean rock festivals, including the Seoul Jazz Festival and Pentaport Rock Festival, and The Other Festival in Indonesia. Wave To Earth recently completed a sold-out North American tour in September 2023.
